It most likely traded one set of problems (corrosion and oxidation) for another set of problems (impact and UV damage). Any fabric or polymer materials have most likely been rendered incredibly brittle and fragile due to UV exposure. It has also probably been hit by micrometeorites that would do all sorts of damage to it. Add in the effects of the day/night cycles its been through and there is no telling what the temperature extremes have done to it.

It is this frame right here that gets me every time. Just look at the disappointment in its eyes blaming no one but itself. I just want to give the rover a hug but I can’t because it is 141 million miles away and the vacuum of space would kill me.
